I Am Going To Say It, I Have Held It In Long Enough.

There is always opinions on watches good/bad/best, etc. I only hear good things about Ulysse Nardin. With all the good talk about the brand I have tried to like them, but dang if they are not some of least attractive watches. I will give them that the detail is superb and crafted very well. But they seem so busy and rubber straps with the name on the "silver plate" seems so over the top. Maybe it is just me, but I can not warm up even a little to the brand. I have been on here for over two years and nothing but love for Ulysse Nardin. I am good with that, but am I the only one turned off by their designs?

I only mention it because I literally have never read anything close to negative on WUS, most any other brand there would be a little opposition. Strange, but again maybe it is me...

You are correct in saying there's hardly ever any negative comments on UN because they make such a solid product. I'm in the same boat you are - I can't find one I like enough to fork over that kind of cash or I'd own one already. Their blue dials are stunning too. I have run across a vintage UN or two I should have jumped on, but stupidly (or smartly) they both were selling for more than I thought I should pay.

But then again, I do not remember hearing bad things about:
Patek (just a lot of drools), Vacheron, JLC, right down to IWC.

Other than occasional gripes about the pricing.

Actually, I remember hearing gripes pretty much about:
    Rolex and Tag mostly.

    So there. :)

We are rarely grumbling about watches I guess.

True, but Patek, Vacheron, JLC, and IWC have watches I would love to own aesthetically. I can not say the same for UN, which was my point (not questioning quality as I stated).

I am the same. A couple of more brands I am starting to turn away from:
    Corum, AP.
I just dislike the styling, most of the models just look the same, are designed in a very fashionable way, or just plainly - over designed.

I wanted to get myself (X-mas present from wife ) a Corum Admirals Cup.
But after 5 minutes on the wrist - no. Too "pretty".

I WANT to get UN Freak one day. I think it is fantastic piece.

Also, I DO like their GMT watch with large date model.

I guess everyone has different tastes.

The UN 1846 is very tastefully executed IMHO. I think you may have been turned away by the Marine Diver models.

Amen, Brother! It needed to be said, and you're the man to say it.

Re: I Am Going To Say It, I Have Held It In Long Enough.

I am new to the forums here, and to the UN brand (so I'm far from a seasoned expert), but I'm getting very close to pulling the trigger on a new UN. I've spent a lot of time researching their models (and also have seen much praise here and elsewhere), and I agree that there are several model series that are not my cup of tea, either. But I think that pretty much the whole Marine and Maxi Marine series are pretty sweet and look great. Some are quite sporty, so not for the office, but still look great. And instead of the rubber, you can also get leather straps instead.

I'm sure other more experienced folks may chime in with better info or pics, but thought I'd share a few pics (from the web) for what it's worth.

Hope I'm not on the wrong track!
