I better stay away from TJMaxx... it's a sickness!

I'd been to various TJMaxx's around here and seen what little they had. Last time I tried on a Daniel Mink diver watch. Nice, but not worth $999 to me.

Seen some Seikos, another Fortis (the Eco... battery recharged by movement), and the usual designer name watches. I went back today to see what they had. There was a nice little old man there returning a Fortis Spacematic just like the one I got for $360, only he paid $275 for it. Problem was, the movement did not respond to movement! "No work-eh" is all he kept saying. He was having trouble communicating. Since the salesgirl could not understand him I tried to help him get it to work. Pushed the crown in for starters, since it was out. Screwed it down, did the shake-shake-shake. No work-eh. Then he asked about Spacematic ECO, the sales girl told him it was the same, but $499. I told him that one has a battery in it, gets charged by movement. Oy vey. We went on and on trying to get him to understand that. "how many a time you got to changa de battry?" None. "one?", no none. This lasted 15 minutes or so, and then he hugged me. I think he stole my wallet. Oh wait. no he didnt. I left it in my other pants.

So I had my wife come over to the watch counter with me, and we got me yet another watch... this Seiko model SKZ207K1 automatic with 7S36 movement. It's very handsome, and for $149 I thought it was a nice watch. So yet another watch purchase, and now I have two automatics.

I'll have to find a way to keep them both wound.

Pic borrowed from watcharama.com... i really need to take pics of my collection soon.

What's the problem? Don't you have two wrists?

They had Seiko automatics there? I've yet to see an automatic at a regular store. The Kohls I went to today only had Quartz Seikos and didn't even have the Kinetics.

As a matter of fact, yes. I remember to shut power equipment down before reaching in to clear any obstructions.

However, I do use handsignals while driving on occasion. Scary.

I know a man who is missing his right hand, cut off at the wrist. So I guess he can't wear a watch on that arm or he'd lose it.

Sorry. I tend to get a bit carried away.

I put one watch on each wrist after we left the store. My wife asked me why. I said I need to know the time in NY and Manila.

I was surprised too. That's mostly the reason why I bought it. I figured I'd never seen one there before, and might not for a while. There was a handsome Seiko quartz right next to it, but that one was only 100M WR and I'm trying to stay away from batteries right now.

I've been to JC Penny lately, and was quite surprised at the selection of watches they had there. Many brands, and many models of each brand.

Do the TjMaxx Gods not like me? The Maxxs around Pittsburgh have ugly quartz Seikos and Luminoxs that need new batteries. Does their stock depend on the location?

Where are the TjMaxxs with the Hamiltons, Daniel Minks and Fortises.

I have seen several nice pieces at TJM. A lot of Invictas and others, but once in a while I see something like an Eterna or Hamilton.

Yes, location does matter, but I haven't exactly figured that part out.
I've made the rounds in my territory and see similar inventory and similar prices, but others report the same watches in other regions at very different prices.
Save yourself some legwork, if the stores in your area are off your beaten path. Search the forums here for reports of sightings on watches you're interested in and call all around the different locations for similar inventory in all the stores in your region.
It really is hit and miss. Good luck and have fun!

Does your new watch have a crystal back? I just found this picture on the bluedial site saying this picture (in reference to the style of clasp) is a Seiko 5 auto and the first thing I noticed was the caseback.
