    I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID THIS !!! (Broken Crystal)

Or maybe I should say smashed crystal. I just got back into this watch. The third time around over the years actually. I was really liking it this time. Dropped it from waist high, right flat onto the tile floor. It couldn't have landed any more flat on the crystal if I tried.

Anyone know off hand if it is just cheaper to buy another one vs fixing it? I'm guessing all those little tiny pieces that look like salt found their way into the day date opening etc...

    And of course the pics.

    Buy a new one

I have broken 3 Citizen by dropping or banging them, chipped a crystal once too. All 3 never ticked another second.

    Just bought replacements.

Also I wear G-Shocks at work and hard play. Citizen (or Timex or Seiko) don’t cut the tough stuff in my experience. Only Casio survives the beating.

Always when I drop my phone on occasion it is always on a spot that is not protected by the pleather case. Always. And always on concrete.
Sorry to see this happen. Luckily it is cheap yeah just get a new one or it is a good excuse to start shopping for a new watch

Thanks for the replies. I assumed it was not worth fixing. Guess I just needed to vent. First time this has ever happened to me, and of course, it landed just right. Oh the horror…..

Not sure of the cost to replace vs repair. I would guess if any thing other than the crystal might be damaged it might not be worth it.
I have a watch not worth sending to a watch maker for repair. It needs a new crystal. It was my first Swiss watch so I wont get rid of it.
I did find a replacement crystal at Esslingers and may do it my self. It does not look that difficult and already have the case stripped.

I was thinking about that too. I recently saw some threads showing longer hands and a sapphire crystal……

Man, when you break a crystal, you do one hell of a good job. Sorry to see this happen, replacing the watch will most likely be the best way to go. Those little broken bits will definitely screw up the movement.

I'm guessing that since the second hand has moved between the first and second picture you haven't pulled the crown and stopped the movement, and those pieces are also moving around inside the movement, making any damage worse. Not as big a deal with a quartz watch, but still advisable to stop it from running.

What's the point of a mineral crystal? Doesn't offer the scratch-resistance of sapphire nor the crack/chip-resistance of acrylic. It's like the worst qualities combined!!

The crystal particles falling through the date wheel isn't as terminal on a quartz/solar piece simply because there are less parts to jam like in a mechanical piece. Sometimes, you can just shake the debris out. If you can get a replacement crystal for cheap, it's a fairly easy job to swap the crystal out. May it live to see another day of abuse!!

Thanks everyone. For now I have pulled out the crown to stop it and placed it face down so no more stuff will fall inside. I have swapped out crystals on my seiko 5's before so maybe I will give it a shot on this one. If I do I will be sure to revive the thread and post photos.
