    I love being a WIS!

So I dont post very often since most of you guys far surpass me in both collection and WISdom but I felt I should share this.
So I work at a high end steak house and tonight I waited on a gentleman who happened to be wearing an omega planet ocean (45mm orange bezel). When I commented on his great watch he said "thank you" and explained that he had thought it was cool when seeing it in an ad and his wife had gone out and bought it for him.

I asked him if he would like to know what makes his piece special (aside from the fact that his wondeful wife had bought it for him). I then told him a bit about the history of the co-axial movement and how both omega and the planet ocean are pioneers of sorts.

This gentleman looked at his watch after I explained this as if he had never seen it before. I could tell that he really felt like he wasnt wearing just a watch anymore but something truly special. I may not be fortunate enough to own a piece like that, but the happiness I saw on that mans face made all of this WIS craziness worth it.

+1. I think all it takes is for a WIS to explain watches to someone, and you get one of 2 things; 1) they really could care less, or 2) they are really in awe of them after that. Most people think of watches as just jewelry or something that tells time, but not what all goes into a watch and the history behind the movements and brands and such.

I have talked to some of my employees, they are really into them now and ask me questions fairly regularly. Helping one find his first "nicer" watch now. Really is a lot of fun to teach others about this hobby.

Maybe he would have registered here - did you pimp WUS to him? "SteakhousePO" would make a good screen name.

weird but the last time i went to a high end steakhouse in baltimore i wore the 42mm version of the same watch. i got great service by the way.
by the way don't let our collections scare you away from posting yours; you would think "who cares about my collection" but the answer is we do. speaking for myself, i love to see pix of what other members own because collections are a reflections of the owners personality. as long as thy are not replicas show them off so we can love them too.
