I met a One Watch Guy

    Just a quick story:

I was at a wedding recently and the bartender had on a Submariner. I had a moment when he wasn't busy so I asked him about his watch.
He told me that, as a young kid, he always knew the watch he wanted to own and wear. And when he had saved up enough money, he went into an AD and slapped down the money.

He said that it has been, and always will be, his only watch and he will never part with it.
I asked him if he minded if I took a picture of his watch and he seemed thrilled and flattered. I took one under the tent and one out in the light.

Just a cool moment for a watch enthusiast.

So, you basically met the norm--where in fact about 95% of watch wearers are "one watch" wearers--I don't know of a single person among my friends, colleagues and acquaintances that have ever worn more than whatever watch they were wearing when I first saw them.

Oddly enough, I know a guy just like him. A black no date vintage Sub and no other watch. I’ve never asked him why one watch and why that one...but now I may have to.

But being in Japan, that could be more a Japanese cultural thing, like ruining perfectly good gyudon with beni-shoga or making one melody in the 90s that crafts every pop song that has existed since.
