Cool I need a diverse array of opinion on this watch: should I buy this?

So I've been shopping around trying to find some deals and there is a Tag Heuer Classic 2000 auto with Black face for $877 discounted from a retail price of ~$1300. I found it at a tag heuer outlet store.

I would've posted this in the tag heuer forum but I decided I wanted a more unbiased diverse array of opinion.

    I want to know:

    1) What adjectives would you use to describe this watch?

    2) Is that a fair price?

    3) Would you buy it? If not, what would you buy (new) with a similar price tag?

I have a Series 2000 Quartz that my parents gave me as a B day gift when i was like 14, i think. 15 years now and it still runs... beautifully.

Its fully versatile with a wide variety of outfits and is a GREAT traveling watch because of it (it would not look out of place in a suit or in jeans).

As for price, since i got mine so so so so long ago its of course enormously cheaper. But i would say its not a bad deal. the series 2000 is always a classic Tag.

    1) Ordinary, lay-prestigious, boring, common
    2) Sounds good to me
    3) No. Seiko Sumo or something from Ocean7 would be my suggestion, but I'm sure someone will be along soon with a list of a few dozen more ideas.

    1) uninspiring, unattractive, did I mention unattractive?

    2) Not really, $877 plus tax puts you back over $900 or so.

    3) I would not buy it, or most other Tags for that matter.

If I had $877 to blow on a single watch it would be a used Fortis Marinemaster (which I have and did buy used), Mido All Dial Diver, or a Steinhart Nav B and a Seiko monster.

In all seriousness you can do way better for that money.

Not my cup of tea, so I wouldn´t buy it. Shop around and you´ll find a lot of good options in that price range.

BTW- Who cares if we like it or not. If you like it, go for it.

    1. Basic, safe-bet, prestigious (to Joe Public)
    2. Sounds fair enough
    3. I dont know. I personally would prefer a Tag Aquaracer.

As you can already tell, there is a lot of anti-Tag sentiment around here. The general public certainly seems to think highly of them though. To be honest, its not a bad looking watch, and $877 isnt terribly expensive for a watch of that caliber. Im not a big fan of Tags (other than the Grand Carrera), but if I had your budget I might go that route.. Or maybe a Longines...

Really, I think TAG gets a rough knock around here. I think they are good timepieces with a mix of designs appealing to different tastes. That being said, I do understand that they are pretty much over publicized, raising the cost of the watch. But if you find the right price, they are certainly quality watches. If the design appeals to you and you are comfortable with the price, the quality is solid.

I am a big fan of the Tag Link watches. I don't care for this particular model.
