    Ianos Avyssos Watch Opinion

    What are your thoughts?

I won't get into the specs (sapphire, swiss mechanical, etc) let's just say they're pretty good for a Kickstarter microbrand. If you're interested, they have a website https://www.ianoswatches.com/. I want to know your opinion on the aesthetics of this timepiece.

    And...

    Brown versus Blue?

    Long-winded comments are encouraged.

I think it's a really cool looking watch. Especially the fact they went with a hand winding movement which sort of flies in the face of conventional thinking on divers (as if that running indicator dial in place of a subseconds wasnt immediate evidence that this is a left field sort of watch). And the little porthole on the back to show the movement like a little antikythera mechanism is a great touch. If it was a little smaller and I wasnt so loaded up on preorders it definitely would be on my list (I'd say the brown because it's an unusual color)

Agreed, it’s a good looking watch. The rotating small seconds is a novel approach to a subdial, and overall it’s got a really cool vibe. I’d have a hard time deciding on a dial preference, but because I’m a wee-bit top heavy on blues at the moment...I’d probably go brown, just for some variety. At 42mm, it’d be a contender I’d be happy to put in the ring. Unfortunately, I just can’t sponsor anything in the heavyweight division.

I am somewhat biased since I already pledged on Kickstarter for them. I like the aesthetic and the reviews have been pretty good. You might want to check out Jason Hestonís piece on HODINKEE if you havenít seen it. I like the brand in that they have found something somewhat unusual to make in a sea of very similar submariner homage microbrand divewatches. The recessed strap in the back and the small movement window are also unusual and welcome touches. Seems like a winner to me although you never really know until you hold it in your hands.

I like the brown one a lot actually and thereís some interesting ideas like the channel for a NATO.

I like the general aesthetics and the sandwich dial which is on the list of watch features Iíd like to own at some point.

Actually Iíd probably buy one if it was a bit smaller but at 44mm though, Iíd have to try it on before I bought. Looks like it probably wears small for its size because of the short lugs, but still.

I ordered the 01 with the brown dial. I like the size, I like the hand wind, and the seconds indicator. This is probably one like Halios that will go up in value, particularly the V1.

Pass on both. Plump, since you asked about aesthetics.

Methinks I’ll go with the blue this time.
