If you were doing the Stratos jump, which watch would you choose?

Tomorrow should be "The Day" for Felix Baumgartner's daring jump (Home | Red Bull Stratos). Even though I am myself a Zenith fan/owner, it is not the first brand I would think of for this kind of activity. Instead of Zenith Stratos I would rather consider some instrument type watch, more legibility/ruggedness and less luxury feel/looks. Probably something Lemania 5100 powered from Omega, Fortis, Sinn or Tutima. Valjoux 7750 based IWC 3717/Damasko DC66 or Speedy Pro/Bremont come to mind also.

Of course it is all about sponsoring, Felix's trick won't be cheap and Zenith obviously has better recourses to help financially than smaller brands. But if we cast money and availability aside, what would you pick and why?

I hope everything goes tomorrow as planned and Felix returns down to earth safely.
    Cheers, M

Breitling Aerospace is probably what I'd choose.

Also Breitling are the company that usually sponsors things like this.

And that would be? Something from Casio, Suunto, etc.?

I know you can do better than this.

Not a fan of ABCs either, as a Finn I just had to name Suunto. I was more hoping of good comments about possible mechanical pilot/instrument watches, can't think of any mechanicals with altimeters. Just remembered DeMotu (DE MOTU | Pilot Instruments) with accelerometer, but it's not mechanical either...

I would go and get a Rolex, and make sure it is well visible on many pics. Then, after a successful trip, I would have a talk with Rolex how much money it is worth to them for me to release those pics.

Speedy pro would probably do the trick. You're right, Zenith is not the brand I typically think of associating with extreme sports... Explorer II, Sinn etc.
