If you were going into space...

...what watch would you bring along? Has to be from your own collection. I'd pick two watches. I'd pick my G-Shock GW4000, and my Seiko 6139. They both just look like they belong in space. And the 6139 was in fact worn in space by William Pogue (just search 'Seiko Pogue'). I'd set the GW4000 to GMT time, and the Seiko to Houston Time. So what would you pick?

My TAG. Everything else is more expensive and has a sapphire casing, which according to NASA, wont survive.

I'd want a hand cranker in space (I don't think an automatic would work, would it?), so I'm going to go with my U-Boat. It is large enough it could go over the sleeve of a space suit...

Actually an auto would work. It doesn't take gravity to move the rotor, only kinetic energy. The Seiko 6139 was the first auto worn in space, so they do in fact work. Interesting choice with the U-Boat though.

A simple three hand quartz like the Pulsar PSR 10 would tell the time with no attention needed. It would be my first and only trip into space and John the backyard star gazer would be looking wide eyed at everything there was to see. Watches would be forgotten on that trip!

Not sure about that. At least one astronaut took his Rolex GMT Master to space, cant remember who though.

I would take my Breitling 1451.

Back then the GMT crystal was acrylic. I'm not sure why sapphire won't work either, but assuming it does I'd take my GMT. Considering a GMT gas been worn up there by a few people, it seems like the right choice.

    Am I coming back?

    Edit:
It makes a difference. If I'm coming back I'd take a mechanical that I'd want to remember as the one I wore to space. I'd keep it well-maintained whatnot.
If it's a one-way trip, like I'm going to Mars to build the colony and die there, I'd get a fresh screwback solar G-Shock or Eco-Drive so I'd have a working watch for a long time.

Guys, I really really really do understand that there was a hack and that my password was reset, but I'm about to take a year off from WUS if you can't stop telling me about it every time I log in. With my password. That you reset.
