    I'm Conflicted... Help!

So I am stuck... I figure this question is going to cause conflict, but I have to ask. What is the better value here? I understand both these watches are completely different, heck, ones a pilot and ones a diver.

I know the diver can go 200m below the water surface, I know the mid pilot is smaller. What about the differences between the movements? What is the better bang for my buck?

I have $200 and want to get one of these two, i just want the better one. To me, they are equals, so I'm conflicted and need opinions. What would you buy and why?

Welcome to the forum. Both have reliable automatic movements and my understanding is that the build quality of the Maratac is solid. You can find a nearly limitless number of posts singing the praises of the Monster. You need to decide whether you want a diver or a pil/mil watch.

Of the two I prefer the look of the Maratac.

Definitely both great watches, I personally would go with the Maratac.

Thanks for the response! I am leaning on the seiko only because I have a seiko 5 auto and I really like it. That Maratac does look better, I agree. Hmmmm

The monster seems like a gateway watch to more divers.

I own a Monster, but don't feel the love for it some other members here do. Have you thought about the skx007? It's the watch I wear the most of my whole collection, and I have some much more expensive pieces. It's just an awesome all-arounder which seems to work in any situation. The Monster is cool, but some little things bother me: when I turn the bezel sometimes I cut my fingers on the edges of those two things that stick up at the top and bottom of the case, the markers seem to overwhelm the dial, it seems to sit thicker on the wrist than the skx007, and I'm not the biggest fan of the bezel font. It's a good watch for the money, but it's no 007. That Maratac looks cool and the 4:00 crown is cool on any watch. It's up to you which you prefer, but unless you are one of those people who are gun-ho about the Monster I fear you may never warm up to it.

I'd vote the Monster. Just got one and compared to my SKX173 (similar to the 007) I think it's a little more refined with hacking and handwinding. However, I'd pick either Seiko over the Maratac, just given the history of Seiko and the fact that they build everything. I like the fact that if I want a Seiko, I pretty much have to buy a Seiko.

In reviewing the 007 I would have to say I am still stuck on the monster. I would like to eventually own the 007. While searching, I keep coming to the baby tuna and wonder if it would be worth saving the extra $100 for it?
