    Info on Watch Movements

    Hello,

New to this forum, maybe a year into watch collecting, very first post. I've dug around this forum as much as I could, and I couldn't find answers to my questions. I was hoping some of you guys could help. I just made my first expensive watch purchase - my other watches all cost less than $500. What I bought is a Montblanc Meisterstuck Star Reserve de Marche - a manual winding watch. My question is this - how do I find information regarding the movement? Which movement does it use? Is it any good? Is it an ETA movement? The dealer told me this watch model has been in production since the early 2000's, but this particular watch was made no more than 2-3 years ago. Montblanc's website does not list it anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Info on Watch Movements

I will try to dig up some info for you.

Another option, I suggest you try emailing Montblanc. I have contacted several companies when I had similar questions, and they were extremely helpful. This includes Blancpain, Glashutte Original, UN, and recently AP. They have been very helpful and gave me info that I would not have been able to find myself.

edit: it appears to be a Peseux 7001 which is an ETA or derived from ETA. Seems like many good companies have used this movement, which does not hack and runs at 21,600.

If you google Peseux 7001 you will find a lot of good info.

    Good luck!

Thank you, I'd appreciate that. I'll do some digging on the Peseux 7001 per your suggestion and shoot Montblanc an email.

It'll be a fun search, I love this kind of stuff.

It did not derive from ETA.
Since Peseux was bought by ETA long time ago (1985) it is now the ETA 7001, it derives from Peseux though and most collectors still use Peseux 7001, take it as a sign of quality.
    Kind regards
    Mike

Thanks, mike. I wasn't sure, and from my quick search I didn't want to quote it either way.

    Re: Info on Watch Movements

This is good to know that it's likely the ETA 7001. It appears that is a time-tested movement. I had some concerns getting a Montblanc watch, as I have seen concerns posted by people in this community as to the quality of their lower-end movements (at over 2K MSRP I guess that is "lower-end" in fine watches). I'd hate to have dropped a grand on a thing that wasn't high quality.
