Interview watch right for a college student

In your opinion, what is an appropriate type of watch to see on a college student's wrist during an interview?

Rolexes, IWCs, Omegas and the lot could all give off the wrong impression. Other high end watch brands show appreciation for finer watches beyond the heavily marketed brands, but then you wonder where the money comes from.

I'm basically looking for a watch that flaunts appreciation for watches but at the same time, does not flaunt wealth.

I'm going to suggest Seiko, Hamilton, or Tissot. All three brands have really nice watches that show an appreciation for horology without being pretentious. I also have yet to hear negative things about those brands...most everyone seems to like them.

For the interviewer to take the candidate seriously, the candidate just needs to dress neatly and soberly for the interview. Any watch fit for office attire will do.

Beyond that, it is the substance / merit of the candidate that matters.

I agree with Ben's summary. However in this society we obviously judge each other on first impressions.
Dress well with a discreet watch should speak volumes.
As an occasional interviewer myself, anything blingy in a candidate is not ideal.
Is this fair? Probably not but when one wants a job in a particular institution, then dress appropriately.
Of course, if you were interviewing to be part of Beyonce's posse, then bling would be obligatory!!

You took the words right out of my mouth. The three offer a great variety of styles and movements all at a price point well below the brands you mentioned (Rolex, IWC, Omega).

What kind of job is it for? That should have a big effect on the answer.

Surely this one screams appreciation of watches, simplicity in design, but at $1800, does not flaunt wealth..

Then again, this one does show an nice appreciation of the technical merits, and definitely slides under the wealth radar.

Sinn 303M, or most Sinn's for that matter.

Whilst not dress watches, they do exhibit an appreciation of watches.
But I agree, given the information that you have given, it is hard to advise the watch to be worn. I've just posted a couple of my watches. Best of luck.
