Intramatic or Cocktail Time? Which one?

I'm in a suit a few days a week and usually wear a Stowa Marine original with it, but have lately been thinking I could use an inexpensive alternative mix it up a little bit. I would probably only wear it once a week or every other week, so do not want to spend too much. I'm down to two choices:

    Hamilton Intramatic in silver:

    or the Seiko Cocktail time:

I have a Seiko Sumo, so am familiar with Seiko already. Here are the pro's and con's as I see them:

Seiko: plus - Beautiful dial and comes with a second hand; negative - a little big for a dress watch. I'm also a little down on the movement currently as my Sumo is back to losing 1 second per hour only one month after I had it regulated.

Hamilton: plus - better movement (ETA 2892), really like the vintage look to it and nice size for a dress watch; negative - no second hand; dial not as visually stunning as Cocktail time.

    Help me make my decision.

It's an option when you start a thread.

As for which of the two, the Hammy has the date at 6:00 (better IMHO) and a classic style. But the Cocktail Time punches above its weight, almost a GS-like attention to detail. The movement is nothing special, but at least it has a second hand

I'm not a fan of "dress watches" per se, so my objective (if I were in your shoes) would be to get something "dressy" and versatile. I think the Cocktail is quite a bit more versatile. It looks better, too, in my opinion.

I think it all comes down to you liking a seconds hand or not. I think the cocktail watch is better bang and better looking because I like the seconds hand. The intramatic is a classic, looks good too but really plain. Vote goes to seiko cocktail.

You need to create the poll at the time of starting the thread, using the Create a Poll option in the options list at the bottom of the page. You can't go back and add a poll to your first post once the thread has been started.

Regarding a choice between the two, I can speak with experience from owning an Intra-matic and say that it's a very nicely scaled watch (38mm version) for dress use in terms of both width an thickness. The strap is also a perfect match to it, as it's a thin, dress style, strap with no padding and no stitching. In comparison the Seiko will look less dressy because it's larger and has a sportier strap, but I have to admit I like the dial better than the Intra-matic. It's a tough choice between the two, so you really need to decide on the criteria that are most important to you and then the decision will be clear.

I would get the 065 but it does have one failing IMO - the strap is like an iron bar. I would still go for the 065 even knowing that I may well have to replace the strap to make it habitable.

I love the intramatic. That gets my vote!

The name "Cocktail Time" is just perfect, I think the watch is better suited to a nice night out more than a day at the office. A little too'frills' on that dial to my taste. And it is thicker. Nice watch though.
The Intrmatic is about a good a "works in a suit" watch as they get. Subtle, classy, thin, low profile, all business. The plain navy suit of the watch world - ie always appropriate. Do you really NEED a seconds hand anyway?
