    Introducing myself.

Hi guys, thought i'd make a thread to introduce myself.

I'm 20 years old and i'm a mechanical engineering student. Unfortunately i don't own any watches but i've always appreciate the hard work and dedication thats gone into the design and engineering of a watch.

My future goal is to create my own watch designs and start up my own watch business. This is definitely something for the future though as i have A LOT to learn about the industry. I could knock up some designs and get some factory in china, but thats not what i'm about. I plan on doing extensive research of the different aspects of watches, like the movements as well as trying to do some watchmaking activities.

If anyone has a selection of websites or books that would be beneficial to me, then please let me know :)

    Cheers Josh.

    Welcome, J.

There is another WUS member who went to watchmaking school, and posted some superb threads with lots of photos about his experiences. Maybe you could search them up. I wish I had more to give you to search on... maybe someone else remembers his name and will post it.

I'd suggest reading everything you can find on Mr. Roland Murphy. Welcome and best of luck!

Au contraire! It's lead to a lightening of my wallet!

And to the OP, welcome! I think you need to pick up a nice Seiko 5 for around $100. Also known as a "gateway drug". :)
