Introducing myself: Singer/Songwriter, watch lover and collector noob.

Hello, my name is JT I'm a singer songwriter living in Vienna Austria and I've always loved watches. Ever since I was a kid and got a transformer's shape watch I was hooked. Up until now (I'm 31) I've never owned any classic watch or any valuable watch, but I've always massed a fairly big collection of cheap watches that have lasted years and years. I've owned a lot of Fossils, some Diesels, DKNY, Invicta.

Recently I made the decision to start collecting classics, and valuable watches, so I'll get rid of some of the stuff I have "just because" and start owning that which "I must own". I want to learn about horology and the story and history of certain pieces so that I can silently enjoy and appreciate my collection.

    What I Like:

I'm still finding out what is it that I really like in the watch world, but some things always seem to catch my attention while looking through watch .....

    - Aviator type of watches
    - Dive watches
    - Big cases 42mm - 50mm
    - Big/Thick Straps

That's it for now I just wanted to introduce myself and delve into this awesome world of timepieces.

    Cheers.

Must-own watches around $500. What you got?

I'm starting my collection with a budget of $500

    So far I've got:

    - Seiko Orange Monster (bought it a few days ago)
    - Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic (Will be a birthday present from my wife)
    - Tissot PRC200 (will buy as a christmas present to myself)

What are other MUST OWN watches around 500 that are classics, or will become classics, or are becoming classic timepieces?

If you have pictures of your own collection show us please.

    JT

I don't think 500 bucks gets you into the "Valuable watches" category. F71 (the affordables) may be your friend.

I have found that some people just like to hear themselves typing.

You think I'm condescending...?? Do you even know what that means... ??

    Sorry can't help myself:

I'm picturing you sneaking out of bed in the middle of the night, tip-toeing towards the Christmas tree, putting a nicely packaged gift for yourself under the tree, waking up in the morning getting out of bed like an excited kid falling over it's own feet, running towards the for mentioned tree with it's waiting presence, opening it up and shouting: thank you Santa!!!!!

It's what we call in the Netherlands a cigar of your own box.
