Jay-Z Gives Away $220K Audemars Piquet...

    for a good cause.

Yesterday, my wife gave me the new book, Decoded by Jay-Z. I have been following him since a friend of mine produced a track on his first album 15 years ago. I've always known he was a WIS and I have seen him posted here on some celebrity posts. In 2005, he joined with AP to put out a Royal Oak collaboration limited edition watch and he was featured on WatchTime magazine.

After my wife gave me the book yesterday, I thought I would Google him to see what watch endeavors he has undertaken recently. Well, lo and behold, earlier this year, he auctioned off his autographed Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore watch for a cool $220,000 for a charity event. The charity event was a new collaboration between the legendary Swiss watchmaker, Audemars Piguet and the Tony Awards.

Others who auctioned their autographed watches included:

    Liev Schreiber: $13,000
    Neil Patrick Harris: $24,000
    Nathan Lane: $26,000
    Antonio Banderas: $28,000
    Scarlett Johansson: $40,000
    Daniel Radcliffe: $40,000
    Hugh Jackman: $50,000
    Catherine Zeta Jones; $80,000

    and...

Kristin Chenoweth, Whoopi Goldberg, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Krakowski, Cindy Lauper, Angela Lansbury, Anika Noni Rose, Chyntia Nixon and many more. The event raised $816,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

That's a nice story -good to see both celebs and the swiss watch industry giving something back. Although I suspect none of the parties involved really felt the pinch too much (except NPH)

Oh BOY! I forsee another LE - the AP ROO Tony Awards Charity Event Edition. Do their 'limited' edition ROO's outnumber their 'regular' editions yet?
