    Just About Tired Of Craigslist

I was thinking that CL was a decent place to find things. I recently found a vintage Heuer there, that i was rally pleased with.
But, I contacted a guy 2 days ago about a watch he has for sale....(crickets)
    Then I found THIS ad:

    https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/jw...323990119.html

I contacted the seller through email AND text messages.
    ...(Crickets)
So, not being one to take no for an answer, I sent MORE messages to him.
    Just got this response:

"...I did receive your email, Iím sorry that Iím only now replying. The Tag isnít for sale, I didnít post that ad on Craigslist. It was purchased for me as a gift, the person who got me that gift has decided they no longer want me have it and they posted the ad.

    Best Regards,..."

    SERIOUSLY?!?

That is definitely odd but not surprising for Craigslist. I've had bad luck buying there, almost got burned a couple times so I gave up trying. Just too easy to scam people on there is guess.

New to watches and Craigslist. Sold my SKX (required first watch of all watch nuts) on Craigslist and when I was removing my ad I bumped in to this Trainmaster. Was wearing it 30 minutes later. (I sort of have a thing for American made watches). Now I'm back on Craigslist every evening and am surpirsed that there isn't a sweet watch waiting for me each time.

CL is great for buying/selling many things, but watches are not on that list. Too much junk, flakes, and scammers.

On the plus side, now you won't have to worry about getting robbed at some gas station or visiting McDonalds wearing a fedora to be recognized...

I've sold a few affordable pieces (sub $100) on CL. But I wouldn't buy/sell anything higher than that. I think scammers actually have some search preset for any and all items above $100. You get that "buying a gift for a friend.. I will pay you [more than your listing] if you can do [x]" email.

Re: Just About Tired Of Craigslist

I've sold about 175 items (no watches) on CL and, for the most part, it's gone well. I refuse to meet up until I'm fairly certain they're the real deal. I try to word my listings to avoid scammers but the scammers are
getting better. People will try to beat you down hard on the price. CL works for me in the <$100 range and the >$100 items go on the bay. And yes, I've had 15 emails back and forth and then the other party is a no show.
Is what it is. Sometimes it's easier to just donate it to Goodwill instead of the hassle.

We have a similar site in the U.K called GumTree. There is a guy offering a Rolex Submariner for a 20" mountain bike. Sounds like a good deal even if i purchased a new bike for the guy no?

So, you had one excellent transaction on CL, and one odd one--and this is worth a rant thread? Just don't get it.
