Just built a chronograph ...and, surprisingly it turned out kinda sexy

Quick gripe: compared to swiss or seiko movements, the quality of the metals used in chinese parts is a nightmare to work with..I swear it's like powdered instant steel. The metal used for the original winding stem broke so incredibly easily when I was sanding it down to size,I had to order a valjioux 7730 winding stem to replace it and it is amazing how much better that was to work with. Anywho here some pics:

Why not get a used or NOS 7750 out of another watch to use instead of using a cheap chronograph movement?

    Watch looks great btw.

    Nice work.

I hear you on working with chinese parts. I tried it once and never again, only using japanese and Swiss parts for custom builds now.

Thanks! And that's a great question, I asked myself the same thing after the 2nd time I had to reset the levers on the column wheel..and this was after the winding stem incident.

Short answer, I didn't trust myself with a 7750, because if something did go wrong those can be pretty tricky to repair according to my local watchmaker, and I didn't want to drop the coin on a 7733 since I hadn't done a chrono build before. Spent $250 bucks total on parts, which is why I'm so surprised with the outcome.

Nice work! Builds are tons of fun. I love doing them as well.

I'm just really impressed. I'd love to be able to source a case/7750 for a chrono/domed sapphire/tachymeter/dial, and build my own. I don't think I'm resourceful, creative, or technically-inclined enough.

10/10 build. What are the dimensions (width, lug-to-lug, height w/ domed sapphire, lug width)?

I second Paulo's positive observation about the strap, too.
