Is it just me or is Timex really upping their design game

I was out the other day and was looking at the Timex display to kill some time while waiting for my wife and was really struck by some of the stuff they're producing particularly in the expedition line. There are what I'd consider some really nice looking watches. With most being under $100 the quality is obviously not where it needs to be, but some of the designs certainly are.

If they were to sturdy up their cases a bit and up the WR to 100M I would definitely start to look at adding one of these. They also for reasons I don't understand are often "crown challenged", with them being way too small and to my eye it ruins the overall look.

Timex actually has had a rather interesting footprint in the watchmaking industry using a business model that most shun--they specifically target the "affordable" range, acknowledge their limitations, and work within those parameters to produce a product that many people would appreciate--cheap, reliable and current--an approach that has worked fairly well for the last half century--without really needing to access other more limited markets such as represented by many of the people here.

Quality is good in this range. I have several that are all working very well for years. OP, what makes you opine the quality isn't where it needs to be? What are you expecting to see at $100 new?
Thank you, I'm flattered, but, please don't click any "Likes" for me (unless there's a prize for "most likes")?

Each of my kids has a Timex. One is running at +0.217 sec./day, and the other is running at +0.23 sec./day. Not bad for watches that cost $22 each. We have more expensive watches that are not quite that accurate.

Timex in past 20 years been pushing nice designs and experimenting. It been doing it before too but let stay contemporary.
In recent time it more or less limited hardware and maxed design. Build quality is not top notch but totally acceptable for a price.
Designs in last 10 years been very strong point of Timex. Very attractive, different and versatile. It's not new business strategy for Timex just different styles.
In many cases if i want to give as a present affordable yet stylish watch my choice will be Timex.
    It should be special!

I agree they have a number of good looking pieces priced very reasonably. I would take one of these over one of the dept store fashion watches any day.

Timex is cheaper and has better quality control than Seiko.

    I guess I wasn't quite clear.

I'm not expecting more quality at the existing price point. I want them to offer a better quality watch for a bit more money. I really like many of their designs, but the watches feel thin and cheap. I wish they would raise the price slightly and offer a better made product. The designs are there, but I just can't get past the cheap feel. I don't believe a watch has to be cheap to be inexpensive. It is doable. I look at something like the Casio MDV106 and the build is exceptional while remaining in the same price range as many of the Timex's.

I'd just wish they would up their game a touch in the quality department to match what I think are some very sharp looking watches

Timex has been on a roll with Todd Snyder collaborations - I would get one on sale but otherwise very well designed ‘heritage’ watches in this lineup. WIS or not, they’ve got something for everybody. (And if you’re a WIS, well... you need a good looking backup quartz)
