    Just a thought.

With all the chaos surrounding the Russian watch industry, would it make any sense for Swatch to swoop in like they did with Hamilton and buy a brand like Poljot or Raketa ("Raketa, The Russian Brand Since 1721")? They'd get a few more space watches to add to their stable so the number of potential combinations for limited edition sets would become infinite, plus they'd have access to other iconic (semi-iconic?) designs and movements to boot: Okeah, Strela, Komandirski, Amphibia, Raketa's 24 hour stuff...

Good idea, but I am not so sure the Russian owners will sell cheaply.

Russian watches do not have the renomme to sell in the West, imo. When they sold in the 70's and 80's there were perceived as of lacking the quality of Swiss and Japanese watches.

I find it difficult to see how Swatch would market the Russian brands, frankly. Raketa seems to be somewhat on the road to reinventing itself. There is so much confusion about Poljot right now it's hard to know what the brand even stands for. I don't think most people buying a Hamilton today are really aware of that brand's heritage anyway.

I definitely think the 3133 could be marketed if owned by Swatch, the question would be would the owners be willing to sell at an acceptable price, (or would Swatch find it profitable to offer what might be required to buy the brand). If Swatch bought the brand, obviously it would move upscale which would mean selling less watches at higher prices. The question is, would the demand for a Russian brand be great enough that the profits made by selling less watches at higher prices would outstrip selling more watches at the currently lower prices? If not, Swatch would not be able to rationally offer enough to buy the brand because the value of the brand to the present owners selling in their price range would be greater than the value of the brand reinvented to fit the Swatch model.

What is tje point? The 3133 movt should be off copyright laws so anybody can produce it. The poljot prand in itself is not worth the investment. The biggest ding - service costs. Manual chronos are expensice to service...

No offence to the Russian brands but.. I don't think the marketability of these Russian brands are anywhere near strong enough to lure Swatch into this piece of business.
