    Le Jour Meangraf Super

    Hi, Everyone.

I found the following at a locally owned thrift store.

Granted, six bucks is kind of steep for a thrift store watch, but I'm still pretty happy with the purchase.

Anyone else own a vintage Yema or Le Jour? Pics and info, please!

I see what you did there ...with the quotation marks, I mean.

Rest assured, Mr Rick; I'm not as pretentious as I pretend to be.

Thanks, and congrats to you on your own acquisitions, not to mention the means and ability to beautifully photograph them.

    Seriously, great pictures.

    A little. *lol*

Regarding the meangraf(?) passed down to you (specifically its date complication and the noticeable absence of pushers), I wonder what exactly constitutes a "meangraf"...?

Mine is a mechanical oddball of a chronograph (powered by a Valjoux 7733 movement), and I thought the term "meangraf" was a reference to the chrono complication.

I read an article (can't remember where unfortunately ) which stated the Meangraf name refers to "mean time", which would explain the 60min bezel on mine, for short-duration timing

Can't say I'm adamant about this explanation, but there must be a reason for a parting with the well-known "Rallygraf" line.

The engraving on the back of your watch is very cool, but, along with the standard 60 min. diver's bezel, seems more suggestive of water/diving than land/driving.

Does "meangraf" appear anywhere on the watch (front, back, or inside); and if not, on what do you base your belief that it is one?

    Re: Le Jour Meangraf Super

As for my watch, the script on the dial reads:

    Le Jour
    Meangraf Super

    17 Jewels
    INCABLOC

    FRANCE

(there appears to be some script at the very bottom of the dial that's just too tiny to read with the naked eye).

There's no engraved image on the case back - just some puzzling specs ("AVERAGE HOURLY MILEAGE", "FRONT OF THE TRIANGLE", and something illegible about "ELAPSED TIME"), oh, and a serial number.

I saw a nearly identical watch on eBay (it sold for 330 smackeroos, BTW). The only difference I could see was on the bezel: where mine specifies "miles", the other read "kilometers". I believe this might mean mine is older, in that it was likely manufactured prior to the European switch to the metric system.

    But who knows...
