OK My son is now a lifeguard. I dont know how as He is so accident prone and clumsy Himself. You could give Him a rock and He will f--- break it but I digress.
It is also His birthday. What watch do I buy Him for 200 Pounds or under.?He is a pool lifeguard (no saltwater) so resistant to small amounts of chlorine please. I just stumbled on a Seiko 5 which had Me frothing at the mouth.. Invicta too inexpensive and not up to the job? Thoughts please Guys?
Casio MDV106 on rubber strap - $40USD on Amazon. Quartz, 200M WR and looks good.
For someone who is not into watches - a perfect pool\beach watch with low maintenance and great price.
If looking to spend more $ (it being a gift) and go mechanical - Seiko SKX007\009 are also a solid choice.
Or for something different consider - Bernhardt watches (Binnacle anchor\diver). But that is crossing into watch enthusiast territory.
Seiko 5 are always a good choice, but being mechanical and most do not hand-wind - it may not be ideal for someone who is not into watches.
Invicta has good specs for the price on paper, but reliability is iffy at best. So would steer clear unless willing to take a chance that it will flood the first time in the pool.
Seiko 5s are not swim resistant. It likely wouldn't last the summer on the job, but would be an excellent "off duty" watch as a gift.
Personal recommendation is a low-end G-Shock. $40 US on Amazon here, so likely inexpensive there. Reasonably low profile so it won't snag on people or buoy straps.
lifeguard makes me think of the Victorinox Swiss Army logo. How about the Victorinox 241677: 43 mm, 100 m WR, Sapphire Crystal, Quartz (Ronda 715) View attachment 7621610
Wow, clumsy and lifeguard.....that`s a hell of a combination.
In my eternal search for an affordable diver I came accross a lot of styles and prices.
But this one might be the one for you and your son: Scurfa One on Nato, also available with Silicon strap and bracelet.
Citizen pro diver or Seiko 007/9 or a Traser (But don't know how water resistant they are presumably 100m) reason I say these rather than a digital watch which would be the obvious choice is if he is outdoors the glare may make it sometimes difficult to read in some conditions.
I am a scuba diver and have several diver´s watches. Although a diver´s watch may seem too much just for swimming, I would recommend a casio diver´s watch, or a SCURFA black watch, both sturdy and reliable.
My concern with quartz watches is changing batteries, it is easy to loose seal in the o-ring.
Thanks Guys,There are some cool watches there. I can see Me buying a present and expanding My own watch collection too lol. The vintage Life Guard watch is cool .Ive not seen one of them before.
Granted I started lifeguarding 30 years ago (ugh really!?), but I wore a digital Casio that I can't remember the reference of until a co-worker accidentally cracked the crystal while swinging a lanyard near me. Funny, even after having the crystal cracked that watch lasted another couple of weeks. The Casio was replaced with a Tag Formula 1, which was the first "expensive" watch I purchased with my own money. Both watches were worn in chlorinated, fresh and salt water without a problem. I used to teach swimming lessons as well as lifeguard and a timing mechanism of some sort was helpful when timing myself and students during swims, drownproofing exercises, etc.
If I were a lifeguard now what would I choose? Seiko diver..? G-Shock..? Citizen Aqualand..? So many watches to choose from... good luck. As I think about it I'm drawn to Citizen divers, but again there are several great choices out there.
Can't go wrong with a G-Shock, virtually zero maintenance with a solar model and I'll bet you a dollar he won't break it. They're also well within your price range and they give you the option of analog or digital styles depending on his preference. Bulletproof water resistance as far as I know and tough resin. The G-Shock forum can give you a lot of models to consider and the regulars there are very knowledgeable.
