Re: Long time member needs authenticity help

The price is completely reasonable given that the watch is for sale in the poorest county in the United States in the middle of Winter. (Seriously.)

I just stumbled upon this bezel analysis which also confirms.

Now I just wait for the seller to get off work and check his messages.

If the seller can't be bothered to take clear pictures of an expensive item...? Provided it is legit and not an elaborate fake, they should at least have the courtesy to re-take the pictures under better conditions before asking you to travel to see the watch.

I've asked for them and expect he'll comply.

I'm not surprised by the quality after seeing his other (sold) items.

Again? I already live in the 1950s in my part of our state.

He's in the 1930s section. (Last time I was there I encountered a pay phone which was in use as an honest to God party line. A little old lady interrupted a business call asking "Are you gonna be long, sonny?")

Seller is taking more pictures and sending movement and case back pictures.

Re: Long time member needs authenticity help

I hesitate to post links to another forum, but you should read the thread on Omega Forums about the serious Speedmaster collector that was fooled (along with the auction house, Antiquorum) by a counterfeit bezel. It's scary, and yet another reminder of how scary this hobby can be in terms of losing money.

Search for "Antiquorum Fake Bezel" and the thread should come up. If nothing else, it's an excellent education on how to verify authenticity (at least until the next batch of fakes comes along).

Given the popularity of that watch I think due diligence is called for.

I've been at this game for almost 20 years.

There is no universe in which I buy a fake if I have it in my hands with my case back tool before money changes hands.
