    Looking for Help With Movements

If I'm posting this in the wrong thread, of course let me know.

I'm a high school student who is about to start their senior project, a project that is supposed to be something with a big learning stretch, and as such I've decided to CNC a body for a watch. I've already designed a body around a very cheap Chinese movement (the ST6D3KS) but am unhappy with the end thickness (about 10mm). This leads me to want the best opinion i can get on what movement I should buy. I'm looking for the thinnest mechanical automatic movement with a date @ 3. I would like to keep the cost under $70 USD if possible. All help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your project. $70USD max for an auto will be a challenge. Frankly, I'm not sure you should be concerned about your 10mm result. Omega has no shame in charging $thousands for their 15mm hockey pucks.

10mm is thin if that's your overall thickness. May be your design needs some work - put some of that thickness into the case back and bezel. An SNK 809 would get you a movement for $50 and a design study all in one - at a listed 11mm thick (it feels much thinner) it's positively svelte.

Thank you all for the responses. The only reason I'm looking to buy a smaller movement is because the cheapo one I got is pretty massive at 6.2 mm. I figure I could cut that down by a lot if I cut down the movement thickness. Here's a cross section of my current design. The light blue component is the movement.
