Looking for some altnerative dress watches

Alright, so I found this Hamilton watch that I like the style, size, and price point: Hamilton Watch · Gent

It goes with what I need since I have smaller wrists (about 6.75 inches). I'm planning on wearing it at work which is a suit and tie environment. The only thing is I feel a little bad spending around $300 for a quartz watch. I've never owned an automatic watches and I only have 1 watch so if you guys could suggest a similar automatic watch that would be great. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more ($500 max) for the right fit. I really do want to keep the size of the watch down like 40 mm or less. A date feature would be nice, leather band is a must, the brand is not of concern and if possible a somewhat thinner would also be neat. Thanks.

Hamilton makes very good automatic watches at around the $500 price point. The Jazzmaster Viewmatic is 40mm and priced around $500. The Thin-o-matic may be even more up your alley -- 38mm or 42mm sizes, very thin (as the name implies) -- but is slightly more expensive (~$650).

This is exactly the criteria that I had awhile back when looking for a dress watch. I ended up getting the quartz Hamilton (the previous years model was around $240 at Ashford.com) but I sold it soon after. I would recommend the 37mm version (sometimes sold as the women's model) of the Hamilton Viewmatic. Amazon has it in both black and white:

Also love the Thin-o-matic but it is significantly more as was stated above...

small wrist + dress watch+low funds = Vintage watch

a nice 50's or 60's 36mm omega or longines will be higher quality than most modern watches.

Handwind, 39mm, 9mm thick, definitely dressy IMHO

If funds are limited HMT Sona it's around $20, thin and 37mm

Something I recently bought: $266. Mid level Chinese watches often beat low end Swiss watches for less money.
