    Politely decline.
Unless you had the item for sale for ages, and nobody has offered you the price you want.
What do you perceive as "low ball"? What % of your suggested price?

I always politely say, "no, I can't sell for that low of a price" and leave it open if the potential buyer wishes to haggle.

I fly into a rage and berate the person who insulted me.

Okay, I really don't but you hear stories about that all the time. This is the internet and all sorts of characters abound. To make matters worse, there's a certain amount of anonymity so they feel they can make offers much lower than they would in person. You can't blame someone for trying to save a little money. Also, it's a good idea to check the price of the item your selling. If all of the offers are significantly lower than your asking price maybe you've set it too high.

So the question is...what's low ball?

I remember hearing that anything below 20% is insulting to the buyer. So if you offer a watch at 700 and someone offers you 560 is that a lowball offer?

    Do I smell a poll?

You could always try a counter offer or else politely decline.
