    Luminox 300 series, quality?

Not sure what forum this goes in...

Specifically I'm looking at the model 3001.

I've done a bunch of searching, and have come up with mixed reviews, with polar opposite opinions.

What's the general consensus around here? Are these watches quality? Also considering the Marathon general purpose watch.

I'm used to wearing my Omega Seamaster. Thoughts?

The 3001 series is one of their earlier and cheaper products. It wouldn't surprise me if new old stock was causing problems for people.

I would consider the 3051 series from Luminox or if you like the style of the 3001, Traser make identical looking versions in Titanium, PVD or brushed stainless.

When you say cheaper, do you mean price cheaper, or quality ?

I love my Luminox 3000. With that said, my best friend had his fail miserably while swimming in Aruba. His local watchmaker made it worse by poorly servicing the watch and it was ruined. I replaced it for him with a new Luminox model. My luminox I wouldn't compare at all to my Seamaster. The band broke in half and I had to replace it. If you are looking for a daily beater or better quality, I would probably go with the Marathon.

    Re: Luminox 300 series, quality?

Have had both Luminox (plastic case) and Traser (s/s case) at different times. The Traser was the most recent and I had to send the first one back with misaligned hands. They both have reasonable but not particularly stellar quartz movements (Ronda, I believe). Both had play in the minute hand when setting the time which meant that the minute hand jumped when pushing in the crown, no matter how gently. Of course, I could have just been unlucky, but TBH I've been seriously underwhelmed with both makes. My impression is that both are essentially £100 watches, not £200. I also think tritium tubes are over-rated requiring pitch blackness to be really useful.

I ended up giving the Traser away to my son. It finally convinced me not to buy any more quartz tat and all my future watches will be either automatic or hand wound!

...all in my humble opinion, of course.

Can someone move this to the military watch theme forum?

    Anyone else own these watches?
