    Marathon GSAR question

I have a new to me GSAR and I have a couple of questions about it. It says it's from 2002 but I can't find any pictures of this exact looking model anywhere and also, it doesn't have a day window. Is this real? Can anyone give me anymore information on it? Thank you.

    Re: Marathon GSAR question

That one puzzles me. I've never seen one without a date window. As far as I know, early SAR watches of that era (not yet known as GSAR) used a different dial like the one below, which had SL lume, not tritium. The old style SARs are actually quite collectible, so if it's a redial, the old dial must've been in bad shape. Or maybe the owner had poor judgement.

So I have looked at some other watches from marathon and it looks like the dial off of a navigator model. Still not sure what to make of it.

I think you're onto it. Looks like the dial of a Marathon General Purpose Mechanical Watch (GPM). What a shame. The original dial is a very desirable one. Maybe whoever did it was a tritium fan and thought he was making an improvement. Unless you got a great deal on it, you may want to ask the seller about returning it for a refund. This kind of modification should have been disclosed.

I paid 400 for it. Not too bad but not the deal I thought I got.

If anybody else may know something please let me know. I have emailed the pictures to marathon but I often find that forum members are more knowledgeable then the actual company haha.

    Re: Marathon GSAR question

It's definitely a modified dial. That NSN should include a date complication, and the cross reference part number for Marathon has the date window, and includes the WR on the dial.
