For those who don't know me, I'm Sujain Krishnan, owner and founder of Melbourne Watch Company, an Australian brand of mechanical watches that launched last year. To date we've released two models, the Flinders and the Hawthorn, with both receiving a lot of praise from the WIS community, particularly here on the WUS affordable sub-forum where I am most active. (This is a repost of sorts from there).
We are also proud to have been a WUS sponsor for almost 12 months now.
I'm excited to announce that we've just opened pre-orders for our third and most ambitious model, the Portsea - a tribute to classic marine chronometer style timepieces with a modern twist.
After only 5 hours we're already more than 2/3 of the way to our goal on Kickstarter! You can check out the campaign via the link below:
It's been a great journey over the past few months, from initial concept to prototypes. For those who are interested in the path to date, check out the original thread about the Portsea here.
To sum up the details of the pre-order:
Case - 40mm 316L stainless steel, 12.5mm thickness (PVD rose gold plating optional) - stamped steel case back.
Movement - Miyota 9120 automatic w/ triple calendar setup
Crystal - Flat sapphire
Dial - Multi-layered with ceramic mid disc
Hands - Ion plated with "M" counter balance on sweep seconds
Strap - German made croc-grain leather with stainless steel buckles
All watches will ship in a Melbourne Watch Company case and will come with 24 months manufacturers warranty.
We are offering 3 versions of the Portsea:
- White dial/SS case
- Blue dial/SS case
- White dial/Rose Gold plated SS case
Pricing starts from $595AUD and all watches will come with a choice of navy blue or dark brown German leather straps. If we hit our stretch target we will provide all backers with both strap colours at no extra cost.
There are also two 'combo' options for those who are after a pair - either white and blue versions (both SS) or white (rose gold) and blue (SS).
The campaign will run for 30 days from today and after that we will offer any unsold stock via the website at a slightly increased pre-sale price.
The MSRP of the Portsea is planned to be $775AUD for the SS version and $799AUD for the rose gold version.
The Portsea is scheduled for release mid-October.
I've had a few common questions asked already, so here we go:
Q) When can we see a sample of the blue dial?
A) We are currently working on this with our dial supplier - we aim to have photos of the real deal up before the end of the campaign
Q) When does my credit card get charged?
A) Kickstarter only charges your card after the conclusion of our campaign and only if we are successfully funded
Q) What service do you use for overseas delivery?
A) We use DHL Express for all overseas orders for security and speed
