    The MING 18.01 Abyss Concept

New release by MING - The MING 18.01 Abyss Concept

At 40mm in diameter and less than 14mm in height (46mm L2L), the MING 18.01 Abyss Concept for the first time uses stainless steel as its case material, former MING watches were made of titanium.

Another obvious change and novelty to MING is the use of a seconds hand. MING went for a rock solid ETA 2824-2 which is missing the date wheel. The modification was done by La Division du Temps (Schwarz-Etienne owned) in addition to this the movements are adjusted to five positions.

In addition to the sapphire crystal, the outer edge of the dial is actually crafted of composite sapphire – similar to what has been used in 17.01 and 17.03 MING models.

The Abyss Concept is made in Switzerland and will be available from Friday, 28 June exclusively at www.ming.watch. Each of the ten watches is priced at CHF 6,500 and deliveries begin immediately.

I like the design, and likely the lume. But at that price... no where near enough.

I predict it will sell like hotcakes though. They have a strong following in southeast Asia.

There are only ten and it looks like they sold out in minutes.

I really like Ming and I'm curious to see what they do with divers in the future. But this watch was way too pricey even if it was a tiny run.

I prefer their other releases but it's not a bad looking watch - definitely see the Ming DNA - but that price is pretty steep!

Not bad looking. I would have preferred an embossed bezel instead of smooth one but I'm sure it's part of the design. I'm sure they'll find 10 folks interested in scooping them up.

I was talking with Dan over at Timeless about this issue Ming seems to have. Sometimes I just don't know who their products are for.

Priced as a Rolex Sub and powered by a fashion calibre. Aesthetically, the second hand doesn’t work. The lollipop and the stainless steel case kills the Ming DNA. The bezel and the inner lume ring though works pretty well. I am sure that these watches will find 10 happy owners, but the only appeal of the watch is its scarcity. Pass.

I'm going to assume you just woke up daft today. ETA 2824 is a highly respected and capable caliber used by a lot of established watchmakers.

At this price point, it should be a chronometer.
