New here and hoping for some help with this little gem purchased at a local sale over the weekend.
At first glance, the piece looks nearly identical to those vintage pieces Cartier (Must de) made in the 1970s & 80s. The case of vermeil with brown French made lizard bands and dark blue cabochon crown. The case is marked on each side of the crown with tiny unknown punch marks and a movement by G. Monnin.
The former owner of this watch was the former fashion director at Playboy magazine (circa, 1950s - 70s) and his name is on the dial.
From research, I've seen Monnin was an outsourced marker for a number of noted makers such as Heuer, LeJour, etc.
My question(s)..... has anyone ever seen a piece made like this before? Can it be a piece outsourced by Cartier exclusively for the former owner? Any thoughts on what those punch marks represent at side of the case? I've searched for HOURS and found nothing comparable.
Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts.
