    More news about ETA

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/sw...lied-movements

I can see Swatch's position, if they're being forced to make movements that the market doesn't need...and that some of this may just be whining on their part, too.

But I can't believe this is well-timed, or that it will do anything but hurt the watch industry as a whole.

Thank you I was not aware of a glut of unsold watches. Perhaps that is why so many manufacturers produce so called limited editions.

Sooo their plan to get more of their surplus movements sold is to raise the prices without any corresponding increase in quality? Yep, that's gonna work alright.

Hurting the market by increasing the uncertainty, in an era of weak demand which may well be long-term.

Ahhh. Here's an article about the Comco ruling to which Swatch responded:

Watchdog says Swatch must stick to movements deal - SWI swissinfo.ch

But this doesn't get into enough detail to be all that helpful.

Maybe, killing the competitors that still rely on ETA movements without being part of the swatch mafia. Though, why wouldn't they just switch to sellita, which offers pretty much drop-in replacements for the common eta stuff anyway...

Sellita can only produce so much. They may not have adequate capacity to take on more business, so some of ETA's customers would likely take it in the shorts.
