Most vintage / retro looking modern watch

    As per thread title.
    I prefer brand new.

No quartz! Both automatic or handwinding is fine.
    Size: between 38 - 42mm
    Budget not more than $3000.

    Many thanks!

    Oris Chronoris?

    What's your budget?

When I think of vintage and retro regarding watches, they are often two different things.

Google images for vintage watch (38mm or smaller, round case, possibly gold, white or light coloured dial, possibly small seconds, dressy in nature) and retro watch (either early digitals or 1970s divers/casual watches often with interesting cases, more colourful and possibly chronos too) and you'll see.

How far retro/vintage do you want to go? There are lots of reissue and tribute models out there, but they span from the early aviator watches to 1970s throwback designs.
Off the top of my head, Longines makes a lot of "heritage" models that look like your grandfather might have worn one, e.g. the 1935:

I would get a Tudor, their Heritage line is excellent. The Black Bay/Heritage Chrono/Ranger are all great choices.

Re: Most vintage / retro looking modern watch

Mod Brad is right, "vintage" and "retro" watches are not the same.

For retro watches, Seiko and Orient both make heaps and heaps and heaps to choose from. Very colourful dials, sunburst finishes, two tone elements, geometric indices, multi-link bracelets, non-round cases, etc. but they're all well below your budget, and rightfully so. A 'retro' watch for me would be something for a bit of fun, not something to blow 3 grand on. Probably the best I can think of is a Rado Diastar. One of the few 'retro' designs that still looks great today.
