My alternatives to the Rolex Daytona

Now if I had the cash to splash this would be on my wrist and I'd die a happy may:

But, as poodle-haired rock-meisters Poison once said, every rose has its thorn(s), and if I had my way to make this absolutely perfect, I'd pump this up to around 43mm and pop a date on it (double heresy, I know). Therefore I've been taking a serious look at possible alternatives and would be interested to know what you'd add to this list (based on looks and function, not necessarily as brand or price rivals). My top 3 are:

1: The latest Omega Speedmaster Racing. Nice and big at 44.25mm and the sub-dials are better proportioned than on Omega's previous 44.25mm chrono. But they've dropped the WR to 50m (compared to the previous generation's 100M), which seems like a backwards step to me. Lovely looking piece though...

    2. The new Tag Heuer Autavia: this thing really rocks the vintage chrono vibe, and I prefer the rotating bezel which I'd actually use. Plus it packs a date and 100M WR. Downsides? Having seen this in the flesh it's very shiny, too much for me. And I find the rice grain strap too shiny as well, and too retro. They really should offer this with a modern stainless (brushed finish) strap and case IMO.

    3. Latest Montblanc Timewalker: This came out of nowhere for me, stumbled across a review and this ticks many boxes. Nice size, nice features and finish while not being too dressy and 100M WR. Downsides? Not sure I could pull a £3.6k trigger on a brand better known for pens...is that bad? Otherwise this a lovely watch and it's clear to see that Montblanc has gone up a gear since what's-his-chops has joined from Tudor.

Interested to hear your thoughts and what you'd add to this list...

Depending on your budget, I would also look at a Speedmaster Alaska Project (if you don't mind going preowned).

I'd also look at the Breitling Navitimer 01 if you don't mind the larger size (43mm, I think):

And there's probably a Zenith El Primero that would work for you too.

If those are your selections, then I would go with the Speedmaster, and add this from the secondary market. This would let us know that "you know your [email protected]$..."

I'm a Rolex fan and owner x 2, but I'd take that Speedy Pro Japan over a Daytona any day. But then again I can get excited about virtually any Rolex other than the Big D.

How thick is the that Speedy Racing? I’d hold out for the Daytona, but these would hold me over just fine (all photos from web):

I'd go for Omega. Choose your favorite Speed reference, but leave that (beautiful) Autavia there. IMO there's no point to take something that is like... something else, but fake. :) I'd love the broad arrow Speed, for instance.
