    my LLD was accused

met with an old friend today. had my Longines Legend Diver Date with me. its one of my watches that i find casual enough for an old man with a shirt and bermudas.

so my mate was wearing his iwc vintage aquatimer. which look something like this.

    while my LLD:

many will agree that they look alike, but my mate spent the afternoon telling me that my LLD was like a homage to his watch. all because his watch cost more than mine...

For lack of a more diplomatic reply, he's an idiot.

I agree and unless it's something iconic and easily validated most of the battles over who was first to use a particular design element are pretty lame.

Ignorance, by definition, can be extremely petulant! Don't worry.

Edit: Actually, the LLD is an homage to this watch:

(I believe these pictures are from member Douglas Gravina's excellent collection. Hope he doesn't mind.)

The watches are certainly similar but that isn't really the point.

Why would someone be so crass as to say it was an homage because their watch was more expensive?

    Re: my LLD was accused

I actually thought IWC homage to the Longines Legend Diver. Just did a quick search.

Longines Legend Diver (first original) - 1960
IWC Aquatimer (first original) - 1967

Longines came first so they should hold more of the originality of the design. No?
I am not firm about LLD release year. maybe someone could confirm it for me.

Happens all the time, even in wus.

But there is no way I would imagine that the longines legend diver was an homage to IWC.

With those types of watch owners, the fact a watch is expensive is the sole reason they bought it. And with that mentality comes the belief that because its expensive anything cheaper as to be an inferior product. The man is just trying to justify the cost of his watch and that his decision to buy it was a wise one; unfortunately, many watch buyers are guilty of that thought process.
