Greetings all! I picked up my new Zodiac Olympos today! I’ve been looking for a dress watch for when I have to get fancied up for work and other occasions. I have an Omega SMP “Bond” for a diver, an Aqua Terra as a GADA watch, a G shock, a Casio Databank, a Citizen beater, and a vintage Zodiac GMT. So, I “needed” a dress watch.
I really liked the look of the Olympos. Unique. Unlikely I’ll run into anyone in person wearing one, that’s for sure. I went with the gold/gold. My wife said gold watches (or two tone watches) are “old guy” watches. But the red hair of my youth is long gone, replaced with gray hair and a white beard. I am an old guy. Or old enough. And I liked the look of the gold. So, why not?
The shape of the case makes it wear a little larger than its measurements. The website says lug width is 20mm. It’s 19mm by my measurement. I was also planning on putting an aftermarket strap on, but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. It is a very thin black Italian leather. It tapers quite a bit to the buckle. I think it compliments the odd shape of the case.
Now, gold dial on a gold case with gold hands is not exactly easy to read in the bright sun. But, I didn’t buy it to rely on it for time telling, or to wear it in the bright sun. I think it is as formal as anything I will ever need.
I’ve really liked a lot of the new Zodiac models, especially the Olympos. All that was old is new again.
