Is my watch a homage (Part II)

Is my Steinhart Nav B-Chrono II Black a homage?

Some may feel it is a bit derivative of this IWC.

    Thoughts?

    No, it's design inspired.

Depends on how one defines "homage".

If I were discussing that watch with the general public (non WISs), I'd probably call it an homage.

If I were discussing the watch with a small group of WISs, I'd probably call it a look-alike or "design inspired" or some similar word/phrase.

Most flieger chronographs look similar. They utilize the same case style and there's only so many things you can do to a dial on a Valjoux 7750. You can see the influence, but it isn't a near-copy so I say borderline again.

there are no legal rights about pilot b-uhr design, so no one is homage. especially steinhart who is famous about her pilots years now!

    I said yes.

It is an "homage" watch. However, not to that IWC, but rather to earlier Pilot's watches.

I don't think it's an homage; the flieger design has been around for ages. The IWC takes design cues from those early watches, as does the Steinhart, so I would just say that they're both inspired by those original pilot's designs.

I'm not sure what the point is of these threads/polls you've posted, except to confirm what we already clearly know: people have different views of what a "homage" is, and different feelings about them in general.

As for your watches? I don't know, and I don't think it's important that any particular label fits or not, nor should you... the question is "do you like them?" And if the answer is "yes", not much else matters, right?
