Need advice on a classic watch...

    Hi everyone,
I'm humbly asking for opinions tonight. I have a friend who's about to turn 30, and his wife has decided to buy him a nice watch for his birthday. She knows I am a lover of fine watches and asked me to help her find the right watch. However, I lean more toward dive/sport watches, and she is looking for something with a more classic look. She wants something more dressy, leather strap, simple, elegant. Her budget is around $3000. She hinted that she'd go a little higher for the right watch, but if she could spend less that would be better. I know a lot of watches that would fit the style, but at a much higher price point. I think I'm looking in the $4k-$2k range. Anything more will be too much, and anything less won't be good enough (unless someone knows something awesome).
Here's what I've sent her so far:

Breitling Transocean Black Dial, Black Leather - $3499 (jomashop)
Sinn 6090 Frankfurt Big Date 3 Time Zone - $3650 (watchbuys)
    Sinn 6100 Regulateur Technik - $2870 (watchbuys)
IWC Portofino Automatic Black Dial IW356502- $3750 (amazon)
Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic WV211B.FC6202 - $1959 (amazon)

I love the IWC but it's near the top of the budget window. The Tag looks nice, and there are some Tags I like, but generally I think they are overpriced for what you get. I am a fan of Sinn but not sure about these models. I've always liked the look of the Transocean.

What I'd like to know is what other watches you guys think I should look at in this price range. If you have something you think would be a good fit for the budget, please let me know so I can take a look. Or if you think one of the ones I sent shouldn't be on the list, let me know that too.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have for me. I appreciate the help!

For something dressy and different, a Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece

Watch : Calendrier Rétrograde Manufacture | Maurice Lacroix
Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Silver Dial Automatic Mens Watch MP6508-SS001-130

It's on Jomashop for about $3600. ($7k RRP) Manufacture movement with 52hrs PR, with Retrograde pointer day. 3 colours.

In the $3500 and under category, Frederique Constant is hard to pass by, particularly their Manufacture series watches. Depending where you are in the world, a Grand Seiko quartz might also be obtainable.

Sporty yet dressy on a leather strap? I'll have to nominate what I consider to be one of the most versatile watches ever made -the Speedmaster Professional.
Should come in under $4k on the gray market or significantly less if preowned is OK.

I like the Breitling and IWC suggestions.

    Also
Here in UK Ernest Jones have insane discounts at the moment:
Longines L27534730 on sale for about £1.2k down from over £2k
Ebel 1216089 similar to IWC for mere £880 down from £2.2k
Ball CM2052D-LFJ-BK half price around £1.4k down from £3k
    Silly me...!

Breitling Transocean would be my choice, very good all-rounder.

I really like my Zenith Ultra Thin. It can be had in the lower end of your budget, in house movement, etc. Lots of different options in the Zenith Elite line.
