    Need advice for first chrono

I'm looking into getting my first chrono. Here are the specs I'm looking for (all with some flexibility): 42mm dial, metal band, automatic movement, a little character, $3k-$5k (though I'd like to lean toward the lower end). What do you think?

Not on a metal bracelet but the current forum favourite Hamilton Pan Europ has plenty of 70s retro character.

If the case is a little too funky then Davosa's World Traveller GMT has the same sort of theme in a more regular case.

Apologies for lack of images as I'm on my phone at the moment.
If no one else posts photos of those, I'll edit this when I get back my pc.

    Edit:
ok, finding and posting images from here wasn't so hard after all.

Several Sinn chronographs on bracelet meet your criteria. You need to narrow your desires to new or pre-owned, AD or gray market, dressy or tool watch, acrylic or sapphire crystal.

Zenith El Primero grey market would be my suggestion - should be right in your price $3500-5k. Omega Speedmaster moonwatch can be had for $3500ish new. The Tag Heuer Monaco would also be worth an honorable mention. As mentioned by another member, the Hamilton Pan Europ (with black, silver, and blue dials) provides a lot of personality and can be had for only $1300 (I prefer the silver dial).

Sapphire, Tool, new or pre-owned, prefer AD, but gray mkt with good rep is fine. Let me know what your thoughts are, and thanks.

Impossible to beat a Sinn chronograph for the money if you dig the style, at least in my opinion. Almost everything worth getting in that price range is going to have a 7750 in it, anyway.

They do a nice job with their bracelets, as well.

The 358 looks basically the same if you insist on 42 mm, which is going to be too big for most people with its all-dial design, and their 103 model is a perfect pilot's chronograph if you want a bezel.
