    Need advice to make decision

    Hi all,

I am planning to get an affordable dressy watch for both formal and casual occasions. No need to be a daily watch, but I will use it frequently for sure.

I have 3 candidates now but can't decide which one to get, hope someone can help me out.

    1. Frederique Constant FC-710MC4H6
The price is good on this one if I buy from grey market, and it is an in-house movement with beautiful decoration. But I don't really like the big date wheel.

    2. Christopher Ward C9 HARRISON 5 DAY AUTOMATIC
This one is an in-house movement too although I would like to see a better decoration on the movement. I like the design but I don't know why I keep thinking this watch is only for bankers. It is not available anyway, waiting to see some reviews.

    3. JS Watch Frisland Classic
The design is perfect! However I still need to convince myself to invest such an uncommon brand. It seems that Frisland Classic uses Soprod A10 which I am ok with it, but for their Islandus model, their website picture shows Soprod A10 too, but the reviews indicate it is ETA2824. I sent an email to make sure if they use Soprod A10 on Frisland Classic, but haven't received any reply yet. Also there is no review on this one.

    All thoughts would be appreciated.

I like your choices and wouldn't hesitate to buy any of the three. I think I like the JS best for looks, I like the FC for the slightly beefier appearance and I thought the CW had a great looking blue dial option. A couple things that I tend to look for in watches in this price range are:

Water Resistance-- 100m is excellent for dressier watches, if you can get it. All three of these are the same at 50m, so no difference here.
Movement-- in-house is swell, but I think it's a lot more important to know that you can get service in 10 or 20 years from plenty of watchmakers. I'd probably give a slight convenience advantage to JS, in this price range.

@ OP you'll get more advice if you post some pictures.

For my taste in these dress-style watches, all three of these are over-sized...but that's just my completely subjective opinion.

The JS would probably be my choice with the FC just behind it. I think aesthetically, the JS is the nicest. My guess is that the JS used an ETA in the past, but now the company is putting a Soprod movement in it. I've read quite a few positive comments about the Soprod A10. I don't think you need to worry any more about JS being an uncommon brand than you would about buying an in-house movement from CW (I'm not bashing CW...I actually own a CW watch and quite like it).

The frisland is a very good watch, expensive too.
A few celebrities have them its uncommon and very cool I would go with it.

I didn't think I would ever say this.... but I'm going with the C.Ward on this one, on pure aesthetics. The FC appears too busy for a dress watch, similar like the JS. I know this isn’t on your list but why not a Nomos?

A silly pet peeve of mine is the upside-down Roman numerals (V - VIII on the JS, just VIII on the FC). I never really understood that aesthetic. Anyway, I like the CW best. It's just much cleaner and more straightforward than the others.

That Frisland is stunning. I was looking in a similar range a short time ago and went with the Seiko Sarb 035 which I love. Hamilton and Tissot have nice watches in this range as well. The Visodate and the Seiko cocktail time are worthy of consideration. As I've read on here many times, just go with whatever appeals to you most - it's your watch. Whatever makes your heartbeat a little faster. Good luck.
