Need advice on a SALE gone sour!

    Hello fellow WUS members,

I sold my first watch here on WUS last week. All went well. I described ad nauseum the condition of the watch so as to not present the buyer with any surprises...It is a USED watch afterall and has signs of wear.
Now, the buyer received the watch today and immediately sent me a message. He says that the was was great, BUT upon close inspection he sees dust on the crystal. He asked me if the watch had recently been opened, to which I replied that yes it had been serviced at local watch-shop(oiled/battery) merely 3 weeks before I sold it. He then replied that he wanted to return it. I was stunned by this of course, but, not wanting to give myself a bad name agreed. I told him that I would not refund the shipping however. He demanded that I refund the full amount....even the paypal fees!
My question is...am I being unreasonable??? The guy is returning a USED/WORN watch because of dust! You can go see my FS post yourself, I never misrepresented the watch! I'm puzzled by all this, and am very disappointed that my first transaction here turned sour like this.
Any input from you diplomats out there would be nice.

    Here is the watch:

If you do a refund in paypal the fees are automatically refunded. He should send the watch back to you at his cost. Then you should issue the paypal refund. IMHO

Makes sense to me. He even wants me to refund before he sends the watch back, because, he says, the he was courteous enough to pay me before I sent it!

What is so courteous about pay first? All the watch I sold/bought the buyer always pay first either it's me or the others.

Buy something online and you pay before receiving it.

Return it, and you get paid after it's received and inspected.

That's the way it almost always works.

If it were a simple, robust $30 item (unused leather strap etc), I could see being very service oriented and offering the refund after I had shipping confirmation, prior to receipt and inspection.

    Good luck with it.

Unless you specifically mentioned the dust beforehand, I think he's entitled to return it, but he shouldn't expect you to pay for shipping.
Sorry your first sale was such a bummer!

Watch forum buyers are generally far more anal (and I mean that in a good way ) than eBay buyers. In both cases you need to look over your watch carefully and try and anticipate any objections to the watch in your description.

My heart goes out to you on this one.
You thought you were doing your best in your description.

As the buyer, I would have simply taken the watch to my watch guy and have the dial area blown out (a very simple task -most likely a $5 or no charge) and had the watch fixed perfectly.

Not all forum buyers are going to be as forgiving (or as sensible).
