Need expert help on finding Thin, Hand-winding dress watch, under 400

    Hi Timekeepers,

I am looking for recommendation on thin dress watch, preferably 34-36mm case and less than 9mm thickness. Budget would be less than 400. I would be happy to have a vintage watch. I really love Longines Conquest Herritage and Omega Seamaster, the vintage ones but they are out of my reach. I am no expert at watch. I am wearing an Orient Symphony black dial and I am loving it. I just want to have a thinner dress watch. I would prefer white or goal dial, something like the Longines is perfect.

I looked through the forum and there are some suggestions like HMT Sona, Sea Gull M201S, Shanghai "Piece". but the Sea Gull M201S is more than what i can afford.

    To sum up:
    1. Small and thin 36mm max and 9mm thickness max.
    2. White or gold dial, No date. Round case. Hand-wind mechanism.
    3. Budget is less than 400USD. I live in Australia btw.

    Please give me some suggestions.

    Thank you so much guys.

Try a Lord Elgin if you live in US. Otherwise everything will do: Gruen, Buren, Doxa, etc.

Well try Luch (Deluxe) 2209 Brand name like Sekonda or Poljot

It's a dress watch, it's very slim 6mm around 34mm diameter. The movement is very reliable and very accurate aswell. Date around 60's to 70's made by Russian. They are fantastic watches. If you do research, it comes many styles. Best part is only cost between 50 to 100. You don't really need to spend on 400 for good watch.

    Hope this helps

My advice- buy a watch that pleases you. Don't let anyone judge or tell you what to wear. Good cheap and expensive watches are no different between them. Both still can tell the time.

Search ebay for watches with the Peseux 7001 movement. It's small and slim and was frequently used in dress watches, or still is, e.g. by Zeno Watch Basel. See if you can find a good used one that's not too old (see this listing as an example).

I second HMT Sona, its beautiful in person and perfectly fits your requirement.

On the swiss side of things the P7001 recommendation is spot on, but not many can be found in the price range you are looking for or the size for that matter as most of them end up 38-40mm.

There are probably a thousand watches that match your requirements in the Vintage section though, from Hamitlon, Longines, Oris to lesser known now defunct brands. If you dont mind something slightly scuffed up, look there.

Between the two choices you offer, I prefer the white dial.
