Seiko will probably be more consistently accurate.

Define "better". The movements are quite different - one, the Black Bay, being purely mechanical but a somewhat common ETA (though modified and nicely decorated and finished; Whereas the Seiko has unique spring drive hybrid movement that's much more accurate and smoother, but does involve the use of electricity.

They're both really excellent, so it probably depends on what you value in a watch and what you consider to be better. What are your priorities?

    Re: Need help

By looks alone, I prefer the Black Bay. While I'd be much more excited about the Spring Drive movement for the money, I'm not sold on that Seiko diver aesthetic, I'd be a lot more excited about it in a more versatile looking Grand Seiko...

    Re: Need help

As much as I like Seiko dive watches between the two I'll have to go with the Black Bay. The SBDB001 is too big and too busy IMO.

As above: The SBDB001 is a brute of a watch
Unless you're actually a diver - Go with the Black Bay...... In fact..... Go with the Black Bay regardless.

Yes - the SD movement is 15spm vs 48spm for the 2824 top. It's not COSC

It has a longer power reserve and better depth rating too.

    Re: Need help

I guess I would consider the Seiko to be technically "better" but I would rather see the Black Bay on my wrist.

I reckon that the Seiko has this one sewn up. Not only is it a "better" movement but I think it's a better looker too. (no mean feat when it's up against the BB)
