    Need Help

    Hello,

I'm attempting to polish the case on a Raymond Weil Maestro that I've recently purchased, but having a little bit of an issue noticing how the back comes off. Trying to figure out whether it's a pop off, or one that unscrews.

In the photo that I've included with this post I circled the only "tab" that is on the back cover. To me, it seems like this would be a pop off(not sure if that's the correct terminology) and I could put a small screwdriver under it and pry up. I've gently tried to do so and it doesn't seem to be willing. Any suggestions?

Hi there. From the looks of it, I am certain its a snap off watch back. I own a couple quartz watches and it has a similar looking lip Ive used to change batteries.

I suggest that you leave it to a watchmaker with proper tools and experience. Why do you need to take the back off? Curiosity killed the cat. And ruined many a watch.

You need a proper case back knife.

Specifically this one is my favorite:

Because the blade has a good taper on one side, is thick and strong and it's easy to pry without being prone to slipping.

Very inexpensive if you're willing to wail weeks for shipping from Asia:

Still affordable but more money if you actually need it in a few days:

Be careful, if you "pop it off" it might be impossible to put the back on without a special press that only watchmakers have.

It was indeed. I was just hesitant that I would mess something, or force something that should not be. Thank you, lilmoja.

Hi, pickle puss. The watch has the normal wear marks and I want to polish the case, and from everything I've read it is best to take the components out. I appreciate all the input, sir! It came off fine, all the internals are safe and the polishing has begun.

Hey, MdN. I wasn't aware of that, so I'm hoping I don't have any issues upon reassembly. Thanks for the heads up.

Thank you, Stephen. I'm definitely purchasing one of these tools. I used a micro screwdriver to get the back cover off, but I'd much rather use this moving forward.

    Re: Need Help

For what they cost (peanuts) it’s well worth getting a case back opener like the one posted to deal with snap backs.
