do you think it will compliment a dark brownish hand
do you think it can be worn in both official and a casual settings
could it be given as a present to person in his late 50s (my farther). is it too flashy/dull for his age
and if you have better options (automatic) in the range of ($500-$1000) please tell me thanks

The Orient is nice if you like complex and retrograde dials (which I don't I'm afraid, though it is still a nice watch). The Hamilton doesn't do it for me - not a fan of cutaway dials.

I recommend the Visodate (but then again I would, wouldn't I). That's what I'd get my dad - classic, if a little 70s retro style

I love all three (including that Tissot). I'm partial to the Orient merely because I like watches with a lot of complications. But all three of them are fine watches.

    I must stop nicking other people's photos. Here's a half-decent shot I just took.

yea the tissot looks really nice and the second hand sweeps better than the orients. only if this had a power reserve indicator and manual winding like the orient

It does have a smoother sweep hand, but they both manual wind and automatic wind. Tissot does make models with a power reserve complication too.

The Tissot would look a lot better if the hands weren't so short

    I'd go for the Orient.

I do like the Orient's dial design, but I will never be able to love a gold watch. Still, it's all on the wearer's preference. I think it's fine for the purposes you mention. I like the Jazzmaster a little better, though if I had a $1,000 budget, I'd look at Hamilton Khakis or maybe a Ball (probably pre-owned).

I personally love the style of the Orient. It doesn't get much nicer than that for me.
The Hamilton just doesn't work at all for me. But there is an alternative.

    Hamilton Watch · Intra-Matic 38mm
This is a beautiful watch. I would have bought it this month if the AD had bothered to get in touch with me. He didn't have this specific model and I asked him to call me to let me know how long it would take to order. No call. No sale.

The Orient is one I've been thinking about getting. I think they have it in a SS case and white dial (borrowed pic).

I'm personally not a fan of gold (plated) watches, but I don't see any reason anyone around 50 would feel awkward wearing this watch.

As for other recommendations, how about this one (again a borrowed pic)? Seiko SARC013. There are others in the same line with similar designs you may want to check as well.
