    New to the forums

    Hey everyone,

First post on the forums and Im reaching out to say hello and ask some (admittedly silly questions)

    I currently own
    Orient Mako my everyday watch
    Sekonda USSR alarm watch
    Lucien Piccard Domineer
    Akribos XXIV AKR478SS

    Good start?

    So here are my questions

Can I over wind my manual wind watches? How many turns should I use?

What would be a first great watch to own?
The Speedmaster is my favorite watch and hopefully my first great watch purchase.

When it comes to Speedmasters how does the automatic compare to the manual wind?

I dont want to be a bother with new guy questions but I am wondering about what the Watchuseek community thinks.

    Thanks Everybody

Welcome to the forums! Nice little collection you have!

    For your questions:

    1. You can overwind mania watches, usually 40-50 turns should do for the day.
    2. If the Speedmaster is your favorite watch then you should go for it as your first "great" watch
    3. I only have a manual wind Speedmaster, but it is a good movement. You can't go wrong with it.
    Current:
Omega Speedmaster Professional Apollo XIII Snoopy Edition
    Seiko SBDB009 SD Tuna
    Swatch Sistem51

Welcome and be prepared to be wowed by the incredible knowledge of your fellow members. The Speedmaster is the IT watch, and if I only owned one, that would be it. If your only going to own one Speedmaster, make it the manual wind Pro.

    Hey thanks for the reply.

    40 turns though?

I probably wouldn't wear a Speedmaster everyday so I could deal with a manual wind, I think it carries more horological precedence too.

    Re: New to the forums

I have been wowed before. I have lurked for a while and had many other inquiries answered. I was just waiting until I had another watch in my collection I really enjoyed. The slightly unidentified Sekonda being that watch, the Orient being the other.

Welcome! Nice Sekonda. The 2612 inside is very cool, and it's been retired so they're getting pricey.

    Welcome! I'm JP too ;)

After owning manual and auto speedys I can assure you nothing is better than the Pro (manual wind)

Welcome to the forums. While it is technically possible to over wind a hand cranker you will know when it's fully charged by the dramatic increase in resistance to winding.
