    New here

I usually do not make intro threads, just dive right in but I figure since I am out of my depth here, I might as well. Looking for a good daily wear watch. My daily wear is a Pathfinder PAW1500 that I love but is becoming less and less appropriate as a daily at work (I am a high school teacher and my wardrobe is moving a little more upscale). I have a Movado Museum that I wear every once in a while due to the gold case (not really my style). I have a Timex weekender I picked up on a whim because it was cheap and I wanted something different in size and shape. As a present to my father, I found a Hamilton WWII issued to the Ordnance Corps (my dad is a retired Ordnance Corps officer) and had it serviced and case polished while I cleaned and saved the original band. It turned out so incredibly nice I was instantly jealous and have been looking for something similar ever since.

Here is my issue, I like bigger watch cases with 42mm to 48mm being the sweet spot. Combine that with my wearing the watch on the underside of the wrist, I am at a loss as to what to get. Right now, I am very interested in a Citizen Avion. I LOVE the face but am concerned that the crystal will get destroyed. The solar recharge has not been an issue with my Pathfinder so I assume it will not be with a Citizen. The easy solution would be to wear the watch "properly" but I hate doing that.

So, I am here asking for advice. Anything in the sub $400 range that is reliable and has a tough, pretty scratch resistant crystal? I am not really all that interested in a chrono function as I will never use it but would love day and date. The Avion offers the date only. What do you think?

    heya,

welcome to the forum ... regarding the crystal, sapphire would be scratch resistance, but not scratch proof ...
however, acrylic may be easily scratched, but they can be polished out

I like the Avion look as well, but they are using mineral glass, which doesnt seem as resistant as sapphire and any scratches can not be buffed out as well ...

a solution would be to replace the crystal to either sapphire or acrylic,
find a watchmaker that is able to do that, ask them first if they are able to do it

Thanks for the welcomes. I did not know that I could get the crystal swapped out. I will probably do it. I like the Avion because it gives me numbers all the way around, the design, and the size. Thanks for not ridiculing me for wearing the thing face down. I have gotten grief for that in the past...

Are the places advertising on this site all recommended places? I would rather order from a site supporter than some random Amazon supplier.

How about a new Hamilton Khaki? Can be had for a good price, auto or handwind I believe. Hammys are great value.

I like Hamiltons but the Khakis that I have found are all outside of my price range.

Is there a listing of these microbrands, a concept that I am not really familiar with that concept?

On a side note, I like the watch you are working on producing but there are a couple things that are missing for me to sign up

Steinhart OOV or OVM. Sapphire crystal, rock solid Swiss movement, lot of quality for the money. 42mm. So good looking you'll want to wear it the right way. :D
