New here. Casio Duro getting scratched up. Dive watch recommendations?

    Hello,

I am new here. I've always enjoyed watches but have never owned anything over $150. I have a G Shock, Seiko 5, and a Casio AE-1200. Recently I bought a Casio Duro which I'm loving but the face is getting super scratched up (See pic. It really doesn't look this bad but I caught the light just right to show the scratches) I really like the diver style watch with the uni-directional bezel, which I use as a timer at work. ie. Just cemented a crown, be back in 10 mins. Set dial. Come back in 10. Mostly because I was on a student's budget the past 10 years I never bought anything too expensive but I feel like I'm ready to spend a little more on something.

I'm looking to get a watch that hopefully won't scratch up so bad on me. I'm currently leaning towards a Seiko but thought I'd reach out to the community here to see if you had any other recommendations for dive watches under 1000. Or maybe I'm best to stick with the Seiko for that price point?

    Thanks

You need a sapphire crystal and Seiko is pretty stingy with putting sapphire on their watches so i would recommend going with something else like a Hamilton scuba in the $500 range or an Oris aquis pre owned in the $1000 range. Unlike the Hamilton the Oris also has a ceramic bezel insert so it will be very hard to scratch as well.

Seiko does Not have sapphire on the majority of their affordable watches.

Seiko calls their mineral crystal Hardlex, which is Not sapphire.

Have you considered holding on to your watch for sentimental reasons and simply changing the glass out for some nice saphire? Should cost you under a 50.

If you are looking for a new dive watch, where you mainly use the dive time bezel to track time during work on land, a smaller and thinner bezel that is fully graded might be worth considering. The Christopher ward C65 is a nice hand wound watch that should meet those requirements. The only downside could be the aluminium bezel (instead of ceramic).

As another alternative night I suggest you don't limit yourself to dive watches, but also look at chronographs... The seagull 1963 obviously comes to mind.

The Chris Ward C60 is a great watch. If you want something less expensive look at the Scurfa Diver One.

Get the cheapest watch you can... Invicta Pro Driver or the like... If you're doing that much damage to one in a short span of time, then no matter what you buy, it will look beat to hell in a short time, so why waste your money on an expensive watch ?

Seiko dive watches are will be the best bang for your buck. Otherwise Oris and Tag Aquaracers can be had sun $2K and will be tough dependable watches.

Thanks for the post. I love the looks of both of those watches.
