New here - Just bough a Swiss-made automatic Rotary watch

Hi everyone, hope I'm in the good section of the forum.

I have been reading this forum for a while now. I have been interested in watches since my father gave me his father's Omega Deville Automatic 18k (1968, if I'm not mistaken) about 10 years ago. I like well made and durable stuff in general (leather shoes, boots, bags, briefcases, wallets... mechanical vintage cameras) and like to keep my stuff long enough so that they have a story to tell.

I recently purchased a watch online (Rotary GS02990-05). I should receive it in the next 48 hours. I had read about Rotary, and found that most people here think that most of their watches are deceiving chinese pieces with low interest. But I also read multiple times that their "Swiss made" watches are worth a look. I found this watched and liked it immediately. Two days ago, I found a really good deal and grabbed it since it was much lower than everywhere else. (160$ shipped)

    - Apparently Swiss designed AND Swiss made.
    - Automatic
    - Open heart and open
    - Display case back

What do you guys/girls think? I was wondering if anyone had an idea of the exact movement of the watch. Or if anyone had a good/bad experience with a Swiss-made Rotary watch.

Thanks. Here's a photo from the back, maybe it will be possible to identify?

Photo is not mine, from Ebay link in original post.

It's a nice looking watch for the price. As far as "Swiss-made" - well that's a dubious claim.

The movement looks like Claro-Semag CL-888, which is Chinese Seagull ST16 with enough modification to make the "swiss-made" claim. (although most likely that's just the minimum work creating value-add of 51% in Switzerland). While Rotary brands it as it's own Calibre R.1002.21, it's one on the "Swiss\Chinese" movements used in many watches in this segment, like Swiss Legend and others. Has 21 jewels and 36-38 hr power-reserve, with 21K beat rate.
Technically it's passes "swiss-made" designation, but....

If you like it - wear it in good health. Welcome to the asylum

Online price is more around 250-400$ I think. That full price is just a joke... ;)

This is one of the brands that have inflated MSRP. Not saying if it's a good or a bad watch, but looking at MSRP is meaningless.
here is an example from Amazon right now - 88% off.

Excellent info (further above), and excellent point.

Not criticizing any brand either, but Invicta always does that (80-90% off MSRP?); I think Citizen is "starting" to do it as well (although not so dramatic: ~60% off MSRP?)

    A "modern" trend?

Well, there are very few brands where you wouldn't expect at least 20% off MSRP, and plenty of reputable brands you'd easily be able to get 30% on anything but the most recent, hottest watches, so it's not like this is anything new. Watches are jewelry, and the jewelry market has always worked like this.

Op, that's a lovely watch, and well worth what you paid for it. I'm personally a big fan of blue-dial, brown-strap combinations.
