Picture New (to me) IWC ...

It's finally here! It's an IWC Portofino from the early 1980s in pretty decent condition. What attracted me to the watch was the compact size, slim profile (under 7mm thick) and the overall simplicity and elegance of the piece. Also, it has the IWC cal. 3254 (JLC 889) - bidfun-db IWC_3254: IWC 3254 (LeCoultre 889) which is definitely a nice engine to power this beauty. Looks like I'll observe it for a week or so before deciding whether or not to get it serviced (I'll probably have to).

Ok then, on to some pics ...

The dial is a very dark shade of blue (navy?) and so is the strap (not OEM) ...

The fish on the crown is typical(?) of IWCs from this period, I believe ...

And, finally a wrist shot ...

I apologize for the poor image quality, shall try and take nicer ones in daylight ...

There's something about the sound of the rotor in the IWC3254/JLC889 which makes it seem really soothing - like a light zipping noise or tiny roller/ball bearings on a well-lubricated bearing raceway. Hand-winding is buttery smooth on this watch ... very nice, indeed. I really like the watch, I expect it'll perform nicely after a full service.

I was wondering where that watch was. I know you actually purchased it a few weeks ago. Nice!

Glad to see it arrived, a beautiful watch as I expected. If I was you I would get it serviced, unless you know for certain the last date it was serviced. I believe the Portofino's to be an excellent value, especially those with the JLC movement.

There was a delay of a few days due to the bad weather in Germany, and Christmas, later. Thanks, Dennis!

Yeah, the seller is not sure of the last date of service. Might drop the watch at my local watchmaker to have it checked out sometime next week.

Resistance is futile. Check your pockets, wallet, credit card, bills due and draw a plan. Lock on target. There. Feel better?
